Hong Kong Galleries & ArtWalk

ArtWalk 2007 is organised by the Hong Kong Commercial Art Galleries Association (HKCAGA).

ArtWalk is Hong Kong's biggest annual charity art event and a showcase for an important sector of Hong Kong's arts community - this year, 50 art galleries are involved in ArtWalk and many are situated in a natural arts district: a strip that encompasses Wan Chai, Central, Sheung Wan & SOHO. An area perfect for creativity - this fragile heritage-laden area of street markets, back lanes, old traditional shops, artisans and the historically important former Victoria Prison and Central Police Station precinct contains the majority of Hong Kong's galleries. This amalgam is even richer by the close proximity of the central business district and a variety of restaurants, bars and late-night clubs.

Hong Kong's roller-coaster property market has forced some galleries to move location and others to open premises in Kwun Tong, Chai Wan, Happy Valley and Aberdeen - larger loft-style space is an enticing lure and adds a richer diversity of exhibition space for our artscene.

During 2007, in association with AICA - the International Art Critics Association (Hong Kong section) - ArtWalk will sponsor a series of public talks on art, culture and heritage. Further details about these talks will be posted on this website at a later date.
